Instrumental methods of voice examination, the rules of prophylaxis, prevention and rehabilitation of hearing, voice and speech disorders, as well as disorders of communication and articulation, and latest methods of audiology diagnostics – were the main topics of 8th Conference of Audiology and Phoniatrics Section of the Polish Association of Otolaryngologists – Head and Neck Surgeons, which took place on 6-8 June 2013 in Łódź.
A group of known and respected leaders in audiology and phoniatrics from Poland and abroad took part in the conference. The guests participated in 12 plenary sessions, and poster and lecture sessions. The inaugural lecture, titled: “Interdisciplinarity in medicine”, was given by Prof. Henryk Skarżyński – State Consultant in Otorhinolaryngology and the Chairman of Audiology and Phoniatrics Section of the Polish Association of Otolaryngologists – Head and Neck Surgeons.
The history of Audiology and Phoniatrics Section goes back to the year 2006. That year Prof. Skarżyński was the organizer and the Institute of Physiology and Pathology of Hearing was the host of the 1st Conference. In 2011, during the 10th European Federation of Audiology Societies (EFAS) Congress, the 6th Conference took place in Kajetany.
For the 8th Conference the representatives of the Institute of Physiology and Pathology of Hearing, under the guidance of Prof. Skarżyński, have prepared 23 presentations what pictures the significant engagement of scientists and physicians from Kajetany, higher than representatives of other research centers.
The conference created a perfect ground for the exchange of information and discussions on latest achievements in the field of audiology and phoniatrics.
The conference was organized under the honorary patronage of Jolanta Chełmińska – Voivode of Łódź, Witold Stępień – Marshal of Łódzkie Voivodeship, Hanna Zdanowska – President of Łódź, Prof. Paweł Górski – Rector of Łódź Medical University and Dr. Wiesław Chudzik – Director of Clinical University Hospital in Łódź.
