Annual meeting of the Collegium Oto-Rhino-Laryngologicum Amicitiae Sacrum

The Italian members of the Collegium Oto-Rhino-Laryngologicum Amicitiae Sacrum hosted this year’s annual meeting of a small group of scientists, members of this elite Society. Meeting took place on 26-29August 2012 in Rome. Poland was represented by Prof. Henryk Skarzynski, who has been CORLAS member  for many years.

During the meeting Prof. Skarzynski gave a lecture on “Early cochlear implants in children” and presented poster on the “Outcomes and hearing preservation in direct round window stimulation without fascia by Vibrant Soundbridge®”.

The Collegium Oto-Rhino-Laryngologicum Amicitiae Sacrum was established on in 1926 in the Netherlands. It was created on the initiative of oto-rhino-laryngologists who lost many of their colleagues during World War I, as an scientific forum above the territorial borders. Its  main goal is free exchange of  knowledge and  scientific information in the field of oto-rhino-laryngology on the global scale. This could only be achieved within a limited group of scientists and therefore CORLAS is an elite Society with only 300 active members from 50 European countries. The mutual respect that they derive from their work is an important basis for international understanding and friendship among the members.

Apart from Prof. H. Skarżyński there are currently two other Polish active members of the Collegium – prof. Mariola Sliwinska – Kowalska from Lodz and Prof. Elzbieta Hassmann – Poznanska from Bialystok.
