The 2nd World Convention of Polish Engineers took place on 26-28 June 2013 in Warsaw. The Convention has been organized by Warsaw Technical University and Federation of Scientific & Technical Associations, by Council of Polish Engineers in North America and European Federation of Polonia Scientific & Technical Associations, under the honorary patronage of Bronisław Komorowski, the President of Poland. Prof. Henryk Skarżyński has been invited to take part in the panel: “Polish innovations for the world, world innovations for Poland”. The other participants of the debate were: Prof. Leszek Rafalski – the President of the Main Council of the Research Institutes, Rafał Trzebiński – Executive Director for Petrochemical Production PKN Orlen and Joanna Jagas – Regional Scientific & Technical Park in Łódź.
In his speech, Prof. Skarżyński presented the way the team of the Institute of Physiology and Pathology of Hearing, managed by him, uses not only innovative biomedical and technological products but also offers breakout solutions used in the country and abroad. Among them are: Partial Deafness Treatment method (known in the world as “Skarżyński’s Method”), development of new materials (SRA electrode and glass-ionomer-cement implants used in otosurgery), as well as first in the country National Network of Teleaudiology.
Thanks to the National Network of Teleaudiology a patient can feel secure that we can help him at any moment. This is our concrete product directed to thousands of patients. We do not have direct financial benefits from it but we all jointly earn from it because due to the Network patients save time and money as they do not have to travel to Kajetany. Apart from concrete products, innovative ideas need to be presented and developed. Among them are: the World Hearing Center and cross-European hearing screening in school-age children, which thank to us became a concrete initiative for the whole EU community. The next innovative idea we work on is the world network of reference centers, which will serve for experience exchange and cooperation of the centers across the world for the benefit of patients with hearing, voice and speech disorders. – underlined Prof. H. The main goal of the 2nd World Convention of Polish Engineers was the integration of Polish community of engineers and exchange of experiences in the field of innovation implementation, transfer of technology, and rising the status of Polish science and its competitiveness in the world.
